My photocommute
TweetLast week, my friend and all around good guy Nathan Simpson was inspired to create Photocommute, a new way of seeing the city during your daily commute. At its heart, it’s a simple process: take pictures of interesting things you see along your commute and post 10 of them online (blog, Tumblr, Facebook, etc). I’ve always found my bus and light rail travels pretty interesting, but I was intrigued by the Photocommute concept. So last week I followed his lead and took over 150 pictures during my commute from north Glendale to Tempe via bus and light rail.
I didn’t do anything fancy. I just used my Canon point and shoot to document what I saw, but it was a refreshing experience to slow down and look for interesting things around me. Here’s the 10 pictures I selected to represent my photocommute:
- A tree down the street from my house
- Parking meters
- Standing by justice
- Tired guy
- Broken light on the side of my bus
- Bus stop bench
- Parking garage at 3rd St/Mill Ave station
- Just don’t do it
- The Button
- Sunset
Will this become a movement, a viral idea that takes off? I have no idea, but I know that I’m happy to have participated.
Read Nathan’s blog post about his Photocommute. What will you see when you slow down to look?
NOTE: The full size originals of my Photocommute pictures can be found in my Flickr set.
